Smells like… Comic Book Spirit?

Whilst shopping for candles, the Rogues came upon a “Fireside” candle. We immediately decided it smelled like Gambit. How do we know that you ask – Don’t ask, just let it happen. This led us to discuss what we think the X-Men would smell like. Below are some of our thoughts…. what do you think your favorite comic book characters would smell like?

Professor X – Mothballs and Wig Glue

Cyclops – Axe and a Fraternity House

Jean Grey – Plain-as-can-be Ivory Soap and Breck Shampoo

Wolverine – Naturally Occurring Old Spice (the man your man wants to smell like), Woods and Cigar Smoke

Storm – Outside, right before it rains

Rogue – Magnolias and Sass

Gambit – Spices, Bourbon, Cigarettes and Bad Decisions

Beast – Doggie Shampoo

Emma Frost – Better than you, that’s all you need to know, darlings

Nightcrawler – Sulfer and Brimstone

Kitty Pryde – Cucumber Melon body wash from Bath and Body Works

Jubilee – Bubblegum

Angel – Rich Mahogany and Money

Magneto – Pantene Pro-V (smell THIS, Charles)

Sabretooth – Raw Animal Hides

Toad – Flies and Stickiness

Pyro – Matches

Quicksilver – Shame and Disappointment

Scarlet Witch – PMS

Teon (one of the Five Lights) – Flea Powder and Urine

Deadpool – Gun Powder and Tacos/Chimichangas

X-Men: Age of X

Don’t know if you’ve all been following the Age of X reveals, but today we got our full look at the cast for Age of X and I’m kind of excited! It’ll be interesting to see how this is done… it seems AU, as some of these “new” characters seem to actually be Alternate Universe versions of real characters. For example, while Gambit is listed as Gambit and Magneto is listed as Magneto, the two added today (clearly Rogue and Jean Grey/Phoenix) are being called Reaper and Revenant. The guy in the back called Basilisk looks an awful lot like Cyclops, and so on. There isn’t a whole lot of plot detail on this yet, but since it launches on January 26, 2011, we can probably expect some soon. Thoughts?

Producer Lauren Shuler Donner Talks Upcoming Marvel Movies

Care of CBM.com, Donner gave an interview with Crave online discussing X-Men: First Class, Wolverine 2, Deadpool, and the possibility of a Magneto Origins.

On X-Men: First Class:

“I personally feel that the X-Men franchise is kind of like Marvel in that there’s a lot of characters, there are a lot of stories, 40 years of comics and that we can make multiple movies. It’s not like Spider-Man where there is a Spider-Man and you follow him. This is THE X-Men and there’s a world. In that world, we can tell many stories. We’re trying to do everything as practical as possible but sometimes we have to build it just to control it. We are going to try as much practical effects as possible. Then only when we have to, use CGI. Matthew Vaughn is a really good director. He brings a very stylish and sort of out of the box vision. He is also very set on casting the best actors possible so the characters become real and the story.

On Wolverine 2:

“We have another Wolverine that we’re going to do, The Wolverine Saga, with Mariko, The Japanese Story, that miniseries. But that we pretty much follow the comic pretty closely, as closely, really closely.”

On Deadpool:

“Ryan is so committed to being Deadpool. He is Wade Wilson. Well, no, he’s Deadpool. He is so committed to it that he worked with the writers on the script. Even though he’s doing Green Lantern, he’s stayed involved in that project. It’s very different. It’s like Harrison Ford doing Star Wars and Indiana Jones. DC and Marvel are different universes with different movies. But sure, the more popular and well known he is the better.I’m hoping we’ll get it off the ground next year.”

On X-Men Origins: Magneto:

“You know, there’s internal discussions but probably not. It kind of got incorporated into this one, a lot of it. Magneto history. Stuff from the Marvel/Magneto history.”

Casting Update: X-Men: First Class

Latest reports are saying that Fox has fired Benjamin Walker, who was set to play Beast, because he’s “too old” being that their Xavier and Magneto are only 31 and 33. No sh*t, Fox. That’s why your young Xavier and Magneto should’ve been more like 40, you morons. If you want to guess that Xavier and Magneto are around 55 in the comics while the X-Men seem to be around 30 (this is a loose guess, but you know, give or take), then if you rewind 15 years your Xavier and Magneto will still be a good 20-25 years older than these teenagers. Sigh. And if you’re going with the movie consistency then Charles and Eric are 70 while the X-men are around 35! An even bigger gap – Would it kill these people to pick up a comic book? Or even re-watch their own movies? (1 and 2 of course, not that Last Stand crap). I digress, rumors are also stating that the rest of the people they’ve screen tested are not living up to Benjamin’s potential, so who knows if they’ll just end up re-hiring him. More to come.
