The whole Fear Itself event sounds cool, but the title is a little odd. The cover here for the prologue looks great. It makes me think that the secret from Marvel’s history (the center point of the event) will be around this time period. Ed Brubaker has always done a great job of blending the two timelines; he’s great with flashbacks are extremely relevant. His flashbacks don’t just fill in the gaps, they are a big part of whatever story he’s telling.
I was reading through some of the early soliciations for the next few months. A few of the Avengers titles that are coming out around the time that Fear Itself might be clue as well. One was going into the serum that Nick Fury got, the non-aging thing.

An extra bonus to this event is that Matt Fraction will be scaling back his writing duties on Uncanny X-Men. I don’t hate Fraction’s work on X-Men, others just handle the characters better (like Mike Carey). Fraction’s work on Iron Man and Iron Fist is/was some of his best Marvel work yet. Hopefully Fear Itself falls into that category.
