Movie Update: Wolverine 2

Pajiba has released some character info from Wolverine 2 – take a look. Some spoilers below!

Logan: After getting into trouble in his native Canada, Zen, Japanese man, arranges for Logan’s release and offers to answer questions about his origin if he’ll accompany him to Tokyo.

Zen: He finds Logan in jail in Canada and makes him an offer he can’t refuse – to come to Japan and learn about his origin.

Shingen: His late father was the Master of the Hand, but rather than allow Shingen to take on the role, he killed himself and left the Hand masterless, hoping that they would choose Logan as their new Master.

Mariko: Shingen’s daughter. Shingen has arranged her marriage to the corrupt Noburo, but when Logan saves her life, they fall for one another.

Kenuichio/Samurai: He’s the illegitimate son of Shingen, but Shingen refuses to acknowledge him as an heir. He’s also an expert Samurai, and he attacks Logan several times as a “Silver Samurai” with electrified armor.

Why would Logan’s origins be in Japan? Or why would someone who knows of Logan’s origins be in Japan. The Origins title still works for the movie since his time in Japan was a big part of his character development, but this synopsis that was forwarded to you sounds dubious and pretty illogical. But then, it is Fox; both of those fit.

That aside for now, who is this Zen character that they’ve seemingly pulled from the ether? Would that be Zen, Intergalactic Ninja? Maybe this is their attempt to “cross pollinate” like Marvel Studios, and jump start (i.e. reboot) another franchise.

I’m kidding of course. That still doesn’t explain why Fox continues to invent, or reinvent, characters in the X-Men universe. To be serious for a second, Fox should copy or borrow Marvel Studios’ business plan and keep the X brand closer to the source material. Fans would appreciate them more and as the box office shows with the Iron Man movies, the non-fans like it just as much.

I go off on comic book movies a little bit here:

This really isn’t Wolverine 2 news, but you didn’t have an X-Men post on your front page. It is Wolverine related though.

Yes, I heard this. I’m still not going to see it in the theater on principle but thankfully they’re not making him a teen for no reason too. Is this supposed to be in line with Wolverine Origins? I heard it is but Emma is older in First Class (60s) than she is in Origins (late 70s-ish) so how does that work? Or are they trying to follow X 1-3 but not Wolverine? Sigh. This movie makes me what to punch something. Like Fox Execs.

I think they’re going to sort of ignore the Wolverine Emma. Fox likes to give random powers to people. Look at half of the kids in the X mansion or being held at the Weapon X facility. The kid that blinks to change channels on the TV. That’s such an awesome power. I bet he got beat up a lot, even at the X school. Or what about the twins in X-Men 3? Their power was… they’re twins?

So in their X-Men movie universe, Emma 1 can turn to diamond and Emma 2 is the telepathic Emma Frost. Because if you think about it, Emma 1 was Silverfox’s sister, she would be actually be named Emma Silverfox. What can I say? It’s Fox.
