Director Update: Wolverine 2

“The Wrestler” and “Black Swan” director Darren Aronofsky is supposedly coming close to a reaching a deal to direct Wolverine 2. This would be his first big-budget film if it works out. Thoughts? Other than on his creepy porn-stache?

I don’t see it happening. Yeah, he has the “in” with Hugh Jackman, but the deal will fall apart. Aronofsky is a very strong willed director. He has a clear vision of what he wants and doesn’t like a lot of studio interference, which is the complete opposite of what will happen at Fox. Remember, this is the same director that was signed to reboot Robocop and Batman (before Chris Nolan got the gig). The Robocop deal fell through because the studio wanted it to be 3D. He fought and delayed it until MGM scrapped the whole movie. His Batman: Year One idea was… horrible. I don’t mean to trash Aronofsky, he is a great director, but I just don’t think his ego or style fit comic book action movies. His films are more art house. Besides, he is not a huge fan of CGI and something like Wolverine would require at least some.

If it happens, between Jackman and Aronofsky, they might be able to pry the franchise away from Fox. Make it respectable. I thought the same about Gavin Hood though.

They need someone that will stand up to FOX and do it their way, but I don’t know that he’s the guy and I don’t know that FOX will ever allow that to happen. I’ve heard good things about the Wolverine 2 script, but that can be destroyed pretty quickly if the wrong person is in charge. I guess we’ll see. And true story about Gavin Hood. Sigh.

Thoughts? Who cares. Have you seen Wolverine 1?!? As long as Hugh Jackman is Wolverine, I’m tight.

You can’t stand up to Fox. Fox will just find someone else. They are about money, not integrity or quality of movie. Money.
